The Gardens at the Camellia Inn

Our Gardens at the Camellia Inn have been flourishing since the Lewand family took over in 1981. They were what one of the biggest proponents to why the Lewands decided to call it the Camellia Inn. More than 80 plants bloom throughout the winter on the inn’s landscaped grounds. We highly recommend that you take a self-guided tour of our property. Here you’ll be able to experience our history through beauty. You can begin this tour at the Fish Pond patio, which faces the tree-lined North Street. The Evergreen Dogwood is on your left which has the distinguishable yellow/green flowers in summer, which develop pink overtones as they mature. With its strawberry-like pods, the tree was planted to screen the side of the house. It is a very rare variety. Lucy Lewand’s sister Chris grew it from seed.

You’ll then notice an old Tulip Tree that has bloomed beautifully bringing calm joy to everyone that experiences it. You can cross over the brick patio to the right, where there are the oldest Camellias at the Camellia Inn that were planted by the doctor and his wife. The Lewands have added more than 40 additional varieties of camellias since starting the Inn. The Japanese Maple was added in 1988 as shade for the camellias. And he ventures deep into Kentucky coal country, meeting unemployed miners finding hope from a new source. Balog argues that humans are part of the whole system of nature and not apart from it. On Saturday April 13th and Sunday April 14th, heading to downtown Healdsburg has a real fun treat for you. Just when it’s time for a little color in the garden, the irises begin their glorious spring show! Enjoy 150 varieties of these gorgeous beauties in full splendor, many of them world-class award winners, planted throughout the 650 roses in the Russian River Rose Company’s garden. Drought tolerant and easy to grow, Jan calls them “Orchids You Can Drive On.” The gorgeous “early blooming roses” will also be making their annual come-back appearance. Earth Day Tour at Alexander Valley Vineyards

The next event that we think you should look into attending is the Earth Day Tour at Alexander Valley Vineyards. On Saturday April 13th, you can head over to this winery which is 10 minutes from downtown Healdsburg to take celebrate Earth Day! Elebrate Earth Month at Alexander Valley Vineyards with a special tour hosted by owner Harry Wetzel. You’ll get a behind the scenes look at the Wetzel Family’s commitment to sustainability. West Wines Easter Weekend Fun – Vineyard Walk and Quiz

Yep, Easter is right around the corner, so heading to downtown Healdsburg to celebrate is a fantastic idea. On Saturday, April 20, 2019 and Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 11:00am to 04:00pm take a short self-guided walk through the West Wines vineyard with questions about Sonoma nature, vineyards and wine (for adults), and Sonoma animals and plants (for kids). Come join guest speaker Molly MacGregor the founder of the National Women’s History Project. Forty years ago, Molly MacGregor organized the nation’s first Women’s History Day here in Sonoma County. A Fine Line Film Screening, Food and Wine Reception, and Panel Q&A

Our Healdsburg Inn is happy to promote the screening of an award-winning documentary, A Fine Line, which chronicles the challenges faced by female chefs in the male-dominated culinary industry. The timely documentary explores why less than 7% of head chefs and restaurant owners are women, while addressing important issues about equality in the culinary field, and beyond. The screening will take place during Women’s History Month at MacRostie Winery and Vineyards in Healdsburg, and will honor Katina and Kyle Connaughton, owners of 3-Michelin Star restaurant Single Thread, and MacRostie Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen.
